A Healthy Prostate Makes a Healthy Man
Return to Article Library
Prostate cancer is a very serious condition encountered by one out of every
six men. It is the second type of cancer in the list of top death causes for men. Prostate
health should therefore not be taken for granted.
What causes prostate cancer?
The prostate is a very vital organ in the man’s anatomy. It is the gland that
produces the semen and must therefore be treated with extra attention and care.
It is important for every man to understand how seriously at risk he is from prostate cancer.
No man is safe from prostate cancer. Age is the most unavoidable risk for the
condition. Although there is lower risk of getting the cancer for younger men, they
become more at risk to developing the cancer as they near the age of 50.
High levels of testosterone, or an imbalance between the man’s hormones may cause
prostate cancer. A history of cancer in the person’s family is another inevitable cancer
risk factor for the man. Studies show that there are certain races more prone to have cancer
problems. Although this is so, it is still safer for a person to believe that cancer does not
choose its victim and that it could grow in the body of any man. The environment and exposure
to harmful toxins are special risks that may lead cancer in the prostate.
Next to age, the second most common factor is the man’s weight and/or diet. Many
studies associate prostate cancer development to overweight men. It has been said the
obese men are in greater risk to the cancer than those who weigh average.
Weight loss prevents prostate problems
People may find ways to reduce or slow down the process of a man’s aging
but can never stop it.
The best way to prevent prostate cancer is for the man to live a healthy lifestyle.
Weight loss is one of the most important (if not the most important) steps men should
keep in their goal list, as the overweight are more prone to developing aggressive
cancer of the prostate.
Men’s Health and Weight Loss
Men develop weight problems, too. Excessive fat inside the body is not an issue
restricted to women only. The many methods to obtain weight loss are not classified
to be “just-for-girls” either.
The key to weight loss is to burn excess calories. Exercise is the best way
to lose weight. Exercise forms muscles that can burn more calories. Most men are
known to live an active lifestyle. Some men, who prefer a not-so-active way of living,
may still find ways to burn calories and lose that weight.
Walking is the best way to go for people who are keen to lose weight. Just a few
blocks for a few minutes on a regular basis will do the trick. Even at home, as long
as the person’s activities or routine involves movement, he is burning those calories.
The trick is to keep yourself active.
Along with exercise, a proper diet is essential to achieve optimum men’s health.
A man must choose the food he eats carefully. Food that contains saturated fat is
known to cause prostate cancer. A diet of fresh fruits and vegetables is ideal for
weight loss. Avoid red meat because they contain more saturated fat. Besides, keeping away
from saturated fat reduces risks for a whole lot of other disease, diabetes and hearts
diseases included.
Starving yourself with crash diets will not help you lose weight effectively.
Choosing the right type of food is important. Some foods contain fewer calories than
others. In theory, there are even some fruits and vegetables, which have caloric contents
low enough that to not only make the body burn some of its own calories while it burns
the calories from the food that the body ingested. These are referred to as
negative calorie foods.
Now, although everybody is aware how important it is for men to lose weight in
prevention of cancer, it is also acknowledged that weight loss is a difficult process
that cannot be achieved in a day’s length. Men should therefore remember that once they
reach the ideal healthy weight, they should not stop from being conscious of the way they
live. Maintaining an active exercise regimin and healthy eating habits are critical to
not only your weight and overal health but your protection from this potentially deadly disease.
