Pay the Piper - Now or LaterReturn to Article LibraryYou know {!firstname}, there is a saying that goes something like this: "Two things are certain in life: death, and taxes" I say that there are 3 things that are certain in life: death, taxes, and CHANGE. Just reflect for a moment of all of the changes that you have experienced in your life. Changes in career, changes of opinion, changes romantic interests, changes in wardrobe, hairstyles, and even your body---which is half the reason you're on a weight loss program in the first place. However, one change that most of us don't even think twice about until it is too late is our internal health condition. Just ask a good friend of mine who we'll call Cathy. Cathy is one of my closest and most trusted friends. She's a wonderful person who is full of life, optimism, and possibility. In addition to that, she is a very successful business woman in her own right and someone who I rely on infinitely for her eye for business strategy and opportunity. She is also someone who spent the better part of 40+ years eating a diet consisting largely of fried, fatty, and sugary foods. Because she has some pretty good genes, she drops weight easily, which always made her "feel" like she was pretty healthy. Whenever she put on too many pounds, she'd simply walk for about 30 minutes per day and would instantly begin to see the pounds melt before her eyes. She was a nationally ranked pharmaceutical sales rep at one time, and knows every in and out to any condition and its corresponding drug that you could name. Furthermore, neither smokes, drinks, nor has any addictions (besides shopping for Maria St. John suits and shoes, this is), so that made her even more confident about her overall health. However, what she did not know was that her body was about to violently rebel with the way she had been abusing it with her food choices. At 42, she came down with a laundry list of very serious symptoms of disease that no one on her team of doctors could explain. In the final analysis, she found that her lifestyle had made her body literally toxic, and was killing her day by day. She immediately had to take some drastic measures to literally save her own life. She converted to a vegan lifestyle, went through several detoxification programs, got back in the gym, took up yoga, and of course completed the Your Best Body NOW Program for Living Healthy and Fit. As a result, she's getting better and better day by day. Those who know her are very thankful that she was able to do something before we lost her prematurely. The lesson in all of this is that when it comes to your internal health, you've GOT to "pay the piper" and take care of yourself. Either you can CHOOSE to do it now, and still be able to have a little fun here and there, or you'll be FORCED to do it later in order to save yourself from an early death. All of us have our days numbered, and will leave this earth at some point. However, you want your quality of life during the days that you do have to be as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. Show appreciation for the gift of life. Take care of your body both inside and out, and make that habit of caring for yourself central in your life. Choosing this path up front will make all the difference. |
