"You Have Got to Be Kidding Me!"

It's true.

As if you didn't have enough to worry about these days between low carb, high carb, body fat, BMI, strength training, cardio, weight loss, core strength, protein, supplements, fiber, saturated fat, sodium, and whatever else the health world can dream up to torture you with, there's yet another aspect of your health that you need to be on the lookout for.

Believe it or not, where you store your bodyfat is just as important as how much of it you have.

And no, I'm NOT kidding!

Study after study has proven time and time again that certain body shapes and fat distribution patterns predispose some people to developing chronic diseases in life.

The litmus test for whether your body type fits the bill is what is referred to as your waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), or the ratio of the circumference of your waist to that of your hip area.

Those who carry the majority of their fat in their body's midsection and there fore tend to have a higher WHR are at a higher risk ot developing such chronic diseases as type II diabetes, heart disease, and other ailments that are generally associated with being overweight.

Even those who would not be considered obese are at risk, particular is they have a WHR of 1.0 or more (their hips have the same circumference or greater when compared to their waist). Generally speaking, men with a waist circumference of about 40" or more and women with a waist circumference of about 35" or more will fall into this category.

In order to remedy this issue, many people will try to simply eliminate all or most of the fat in the undesirable area, known as spot-reducing. Unfortunately, this technique does not work.

The best bet for those with at-risk body shapes is to keep their overall body fat as low as possible through weight loss to curb the risk factor of WHR with a healthier and more trim physique.
